April 2003
● Project Number:
10-02-00096
● Location: Frederick,
Maryland
At LaFarge, Frederick Plant they wanted to replace their existing
wet classification system with a dry system to make a “manufactured
sand” product. Manufactured sand is the stone material used for
asphalt. This eliminated the need for extensive water treatment
facilities including large settling ponds. Based upon LaFarge’s
prior experience they were confident that the Buell system would do
the job. Previously, a smaller Buell static classifier was installed
to replace a rotary type classifier. The system supplied by Buell
consisted of four (4) GI-108 past_project, one (1) FKI fabric filter,
fan, four (4) conveyors, bucket elevator, 10,000 FT3 fines storage
silo, ductwork and support steel. Buell also supplied the complete
installation of all supplied equipment including the electrical and
foundations.
DESIGN CONDITIONS: INLET FEED RATE:
300 tons/hr.
AIR FLOW RATE:
57,600
ACFM OUTLET EMISSIONS:
0.01 grains/DSCF |

WHY A BUELL CLASSIFIER?
- No moving parts
- Little or no maintenance
- Low power consumption
- Produces a dry product
- No settling ponds
- Minimal or no adjustment during operation
FIELD RESULTS
The Buell classifier is meeting expectations. |
